  • I had a problem with greenfly and used a few drops of eucalyptus oil in a sprayer. It is absorbed by the plant and the little devils dont like the taste!
You have to keep shaking the mix and use it about once a week..... might give the beans a novel taste though ! If you Google eucalyptus it gives full instructions...good luck

  • We've got the same problem and the hundreds of ladybirds and their larvae in the garden at the moment are enjoying themselves but making little impact on the black fly.

As with the snails, we've had to intervene - not with a shoe this time, but more mafia style - by rubbing them out with a finger and thumb. Doesn't get them all and isn't pleasant, but seems to be tipping the balance.

  • You could grow nasturtiams around the beans they draw the black fly off them and they then leave your luveryly beans alone, organic and flowers to boot, sorted.
Be careful with the soap and water technique as it can be harmful to beneficial insects like ladybirds.
