I've just recently acquired a plot. Got beans and peas in and a week later all trace of the beans have gone. I think rabbits as do all the local people. What is the best way to get rid / control this problem?

  • have you thought about getting someone in with ferrets and do it that way?

  • If it's rabbits then fencing your plot really is your only option, and as a previous poster mentioned you'll need to bury it and bend the top over (the crafty buggers climb over it otherwise!). However have you considered snails/slugs... they decimated my runners last year but fortunately it was early enough for me to get a second set planted

  • If you rabbit fence your plot be sure to do it properly and bury the wire at the right depth and angle. You can also get electric rabbit netting. Jack Russells are pretty good too. If you have rabbits you have to do something or you will just be running a rabbit restaurant!

  • Were the plants seedlings or established? If seedlings it could have been birds, otherwise it was probably rabbits. You can put a chicken wire wall around the area to keep them out, or plant in containers instead. Alternatively rabbit is quite tasty....!
