Is there anything that I can sow in August? I've just been given access to some land and it's going to be a couple of weeks before it's ready - but what can I plant this time of year? Cheers.

  • I've just planted some leftover chitted pink fur apple seed spuds and am praying for long summer - worth a try!

  • winter letuice would be good, you could try runner beans. cabbages, white and purple sprouting, rainbow chard, carrots for salad might just make it and of course there is radish. ask around you might find folks have got spare plugs of all sorts of things to go in, if its not costing you, then its worth a try.

  • This webpage should get you started, basically I'd also plant stuff that maybe should have gone in in July as you never know we may have a longer summer!

Just make sure that when you pick up seed packets they are the right variety for sowing at that time of year.
