  • for soil you can use a multi purpose compost and mix in fish blood and bone manure etc to your requirements try experimenting I am also a novice but grow alot of courgettes i plant them into a hole filled with farmyard manure i get loads of fruits have also grown Pumpkins and Squashes this way, Beeetroot and salad crops sow directly into your normal soil that you would have prepared using manure ets you can only take out what you put in watch for slugs they are a real pain.

The sinks can be used for carrots or parsnips etc as there would be no stones and you could create a realy light soil but any thing will grow any where if you look after them. read seed packets for growing seasons or look on the internet grow what you like to eat that way you won't waste, some kind of grwing plan is also a good idea. hope this helps
