Netting is always the best way, but it can be expensive.
Try using the plastic bags that supermarkets still give away.
Cut them into strips and tie onto wires or garden twine.

In response to Our newly planted brasiccas have been got at by pigeons. Any suggestions for keeping them off the survivors. Also will be planting out runner beans and sweet corn this weekend, any suggestion as to protect them against birds and squirrels.
